William C Faquin, MD, PhD

Specializing in the field of head and neck pathology and cytopathology, Dr. William Faquin is Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School, serves as Director of Head and Neck Pathology and CLIA Director at Mass. Eye and Ear, and he is a senior subspecialty pathologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He has authored more than 500 peer-reviewed publications and co-authored books on upper aerodigestive tract pathology, head and neck cytohistology, salivary gland cytopathology, and thyroid cytopathology. Dr. Faquin is a co-author of the Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology, co-chair of the College of American Pathologists Evidence-Based Guidelines Committee for the testing of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas for high-risk HPV, co-chair of the Milan System for Reporting Salivary Gland Cytopathology, and co-author of the WHO System for Reporting Head and Neck Cytology. He lectures and directs numerous local, national, and international seminars, workshops, and courses. His current research interests involve translational studies pertaining to the detection, diagnosis, and prognostication of cancers of the thyroid and salivary glands, squamous cell carcinomas of the aerodigestive tract, and tumors of the jaws and oral cavity.
