Torunn Ingrid Yock, MD

Dr. Torunn Yock earned her BS in the Bioethics of Genetics from Duke University as an AB Duke and National Merit Scholar.  From there she pursued a Masters of Community Health as a Fulbright Scholar from Sydney's University of New South Wales, before earning her MD from Harvard Medical School. She completed her residency in Radiation Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she joined the faculty in 2003 and became Professor in 2019. Dr Yock is a pioneer in pediatric proton radiotherapy.  Dr. Yock established and leads the Pediatric Proton/Photon Consortium Registry (PPCR), the first U.S.-based multi-institutional registry in pediatric radiation oncology and aligning it with biology-based registries and using AI to augment and streamline data collection. Her work has been instrumental in establishing proton therapy as a standard of care for children with brain tumors and sarcomas. In breast cancer she eagerly engages in data-driven advances adopting the most precise and least toxic treatments to enable accelerated return to normalcy in survivorship in a close knit multi-disciplinary setting. 

Nationally, Dr. Yock has held multiple leadership roles in organizations including the Children’s Oncology Group, ASTRO, the American Board of Radiology, and the National Association of Proton Therapy; she was elected a Fellow of ASTRO in 2019. She serves on advisory boards for the Massachusetts Cancer/SEER Registry and the National Childhood Cancer Registry and collaborates with the NCI on multiple registry-based studies. Widely recognized for her expertise in registries, data science, big data, and outcomes research.  She has authored over 200 publications and mentored more than 130 trainees. She is valued for her collaborative leadership and dedication to advancing care for pediatric cancer patients and credits advances to the global pediatric radiation oncology community who selflessly works together to advance pediatric cancer care.
