MaleAbout Thomas Bernard Kinane
Dr. Kinane graduated from University College Dublin in 1983 with an MB. He completed Pediatric Residencies in Dublin (1987) and at the University of Texas South Western Medical School (1989). Following the completion of a Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1992, he joined the faculty. He was appointed Chief of Pediatric Pulmonary (2000). In addition, he holds a number of leadership positions including Associate Chief for Education and Director of the Pediatric Sleep Program.
Since joining the faculty, Dr. Kinane has provided cutting edge clinical care to patients with a variety of pulmonary conditions including asthma, interstitial lung disease, sleep disorders, pneumonia, primary ciliary dyskinesia and pulmonary congenital abnormalities. He is seen as a International Expert on the genetic basis and treatment of interstitial lung disease, lung developmental abnormalities and the regulation of breathing.
His research focuses on the basic cause of interstitial lung disease and asthma. His sleep research focuses on the regulation of respiration and safe transportation of infants in car seats.
Dr. Kinane is also committed to the education of medical students, trainees and patients. He has won numerous teaching awards since joining the faculty. He has a particular focus on the use of social media to educate teenagers about a healthy lifestyle and asthma management.

Pretty much all the MGH providers we have seen for our children have been outstanding - patient, caring, and highly communicative. Dr. Kinane stands out for how much care he has taken to help with a particularly challenging case.

Dr. Thomas Kenan is by far the best doctor I've ever experienced in my life. How he takes the time to truly get to know a patient and figure out a solution to their pulmonary issues is beyond me. He's been a head in 10. He's taken my child from multiple hospital visits to virtually none at all this year thus far. And I just, I couldn't be more grateful for the team at MassGen.

Front desk staff were pleasant, extremely communicative and thorough. Provider was incredibly thorough, knowledgeable, and clear. As a parent, Dr. K listened to me and validated my concerns. He was so caring with my son, shared his expertise in a clear and thoughtful way, and gave us extremely clear guidance for managing his unique medical needs. I am thrilled we made the decision to transition providers to MGH.

Dr. Kinane is a kind soul and wonderful doctor who is not presumptuous or full of himself. He understands that we are all very busy and are on a tight schedule. He is open and very responsive to my son's needs and does an excellent job. The nurse was very personable and made our stay pleasant.

Dr. Kinane has always been incredibly thorough and considerate in his descriptions. I accidentally hit the one earlier in the survey when it talked about whether he explains things in a way that was understandable, and I meant to hit a four because he's always been phenomenal with that. I deeply appreciate how much he looks at my child as a whole body instead of just the lungs only, and he considers all of her other care and treatments and what would be best for her also emotionally.

Dr. Kinane has possibly the best bedside manner of any doctor we've seen (speaking for both myself and all of my children!). He was extremely personable, respectful of me as a parent, kind and engaging with my child, took our concerns seriously, was an attentive listener, and proactive in his care. Dr. Kinane is a rarity when it comes to a provider. He has an excellent memory for his patients, is kind, and most importantly knowledgeable. He has a unique way to listen to and gain all of the information prior to making a clinical judgement. He then provides thorough and clear information that is easily understandable about complex topics.

Dr Kinane was wonderful. He had an extremely kind and gentle way about him. We saw him about a pretty minor issue but he still made if feel important. He is clearly extremely intelligent and knowledgeable about more than his area of specialty. I would highly recommend Dr Kinane to anyone needing his services. What a delightful human being.
