About Tanya M Laidlaw

Tanya M. Laidlaw, MD is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA, in the MGB Division of Allergy & Clinical Immunology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Laidlaw earned her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. She then completed a residency in pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and completed an allergy/immunology fellowship at BWH in 2006.

Dr Laidlaw’s initial research training was focused on the pathogenesis of asthma, of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, and of aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD), particularly the pro-inflammatory role of mast cells, platelets, and specific lipids. Her group at the AERD Center follows over 2500 patients with AERD who have nasal polyps and severe asthma, and she is involved in multiple ongoing research studies that are recruiting and enrolling patients. Dr. Laidlaw’s research and clinical expertise focuses on patients with severe asthma, nasal polyps, and aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease, as well as other forms of aspirin and NSAID drug allergies, and she is dedicated to investigating the causative mechanisms for these diseases and exploring new treatments. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and her research findings have appeared in such publications as The New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Blood, the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, and the Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.

A fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, Dr Laidlaw has served as chair or cochair of several of its committees. Other memberships include the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. In 2021 she also assumed the role of Deputy Director of the Allergy and Asthma Assessment Group at the Immune Tolerance Network at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the NIH

    Dr. Laidlaw is an excellent provider and specialist. Additionally has great people skills that makes her relatable and easy to talk about symptoms, treatment options, medications, etc. She does an exhaustive medical assessment and explains very clearly status of functioning (spirometry test results).
