The doctor was very attentive to my concerns and explained very well my issues.

I had a remarkably positive experience with Dr Shrestha. My wife and I came prepared. We created charts of the diameter of my ascending aorta for the past four years. And we mapped out my cholesterol for the same period of time. We did this because I've had very bad experiences with medications- statins and blood pressure medications. I am currently taking prednisone, amlodopine, and Eliquis. I've had very bad side effects from amlodopine. Consequently I am hesitant to take any additional medications without thoroughly researching side effects. Given that I am not a high risk patient, I am not looking for any quick fixes I.e., medications. Instead I am looking to lower my blood pressure the old fashioned way...by changing my diet and excercise. Dr. Shrestha could see that my wife and I understood my current condition and agreed with this approach. We will see him in six months for a check up and a new CT scan of the ascending aorta. We aren't doctors and there is a lot to understand. Dr. Shrestha took the time to review everything with us and explained everything very thoroughly. Statins set off a chain of events causing a provoked pulmonary embolism and a near death trip to the emergency room for emergency pulmonary surgery. It was my fault because I did not control my healthcare. I just took the statin without researching it, I assumed it was safe. My fault and no one else's. I won't do that again. Dr. Shrestha listened. He was not dogmatic. He gave us the positives and negatives. Very happy with his care and our relationship.

All my questions were answered, that wasn't a problem, just maybe try to make the process feel less rushed at the end and say something to make me feel that they are there for me if I ever need anything else. I asked about how Afib effects my heart and how the Eliquis works to protect me from blood clots. He took the time to show me what was happening in my heart (using the 3 D plastic heart), and describing in detail what is going on. He also showed me where the Eliquis works in my heart and why it is so important to keep up the treatment to protect against blood clots. Very helpful information.

The doctor tried to convince me that based on an algorithm, I might need to consider certain medications. And I think we had a difference of opinion about how soon I would be inclined to do that. He did listen. He did explain thoroughly. He did allow me to make the decision and he respected the fact that I had made that decision. So it went as well as it could, I suppose, because I am very hesitant to take prescriptions because every prescription seems to have side effects and I really just don't feel like having more prescriptions to take and more drugs to worry about.

I have found Dr. Shrestha to be very easy to talk with about tests that need to be done. He has me take a stress test and cardiogram every six months to monitor my condition. I am comfortable with him as my cardiologist.
