Dr. Sophia Koo completed her medical degree at Harvard Medical School and her SM degree in Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, her residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, her infectious diseases fellowship at MGB, and transplant infectious diseases training at and Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Koo joined the faculty in 2010 and is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Her research laboratory focuses on identifying novel volatile metabolite biomarker signatures that can be harnessed to identify patients with various infectious diseases, particularly invasive aspergillosis, other invasive mycoses, and other pneumonia, and on the application of novel sensing methods to identify these signatures rapidly in the breath. Her research team also studies the epidemiology of infectious complications and their sequelae in immunocompromised patients, particularly solid organ transplant recipients and patients with cancer, and novel antifungal and antiviral agents in this patient population.
