I was completely blown away by my visit with Dr. Mukerji. She was thoughtful, extremely attentive and patient, and laughed at my jokes but not at my concerns. I was a long-time patient with Dr. [redacted], who is one of my heroes, and was a little hesitant going to a new neurologist. That hesitancy was totally misplaced. Dr. Mukerji is very much like Dr. [redacted]: calm, perceptive, knowledgeable. Over the course of 90 minutes or so, we began to focus on the aftereffects of the hip fracture and total hip replacement I had [redacted], as a possible contributor to my current balance problems. I came away from the appointment encouraged to look at those problems from a different viewpoint. (At one point, Dr. Mukerji asked if the experience with my hip and subsequent recovery was traumatic. No one had ever asked me that before. And it was traumatic, and probably has led to challenges in staying mobile and active.) I appreciate the follow-up MRI that Dr. Mukerji ordered, and will meet with her virtually after that test. In the meantime, I have scheduled a series of appointments with a highly skilled personal trainer whose specialty is helping elderly patients regain strength and mobility. For the first time in a long time, I am optimistic. Please clone Dr. Mukerji and set her forth on the populace! Kudos to her and to MGH.
