Dr. Rouhani earned her medical degree at the Washington University in St. Louis and completed her emergency medicine residency at the Harvard-Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency Program. She holds a MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Rouhani’s research focuses on the prevalence and effects of gender-based violence in post-conflict and low resource environments as well as systems for emergency care delivery in low resource settings. She has conducted research in Haiti, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo on these topics.
Since 2013, she has been the co-director of the emergency department of a national teaching hospital in Haiti. Under her leadership, the emergency department has developed into the leader in emergency care delivery in Haiti. In 2014, she helped establish the first emergency medicine residency program in Haiti. Her research includes projects on the burden, epidemiology, and costs of emergency care in Haiti. Further, she is exploring innovative ways to deliver high-quality emergency care in resource-limited settings.
