Sarah Bernstein, MD, is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital, medical director of the outpatient obstetrics practice on the main campus, and an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Bernstein graduated from Wellesley College where she majored in Art History. She went to medical school at Tel Aviv University and completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency training at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center (now Mt. Sinai West) followed by a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Magee Women’s Hospital.
As a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Bernstein has specialized training in medical complications of pregnancy and she cares for a wide variety of patients both preconception and throughout pregnancy and postpartum. In addition to her general practice, she is the obstetrical director of the Mass General HOPE Clinic (Harnessing support for Opioid and substance use disorders in Pregnancy and Early Childhood) where she is part of a multidisciplinary team that cares for birthing persons with substance use disorders and their infants from conception through early childhood. To complement this clinical interest, Dr. Bernstein is involved in research and advocacy work focusing on improving the care of birthing persons with substance use disorders.
Outside of work, Dr. Bernstein enjoys spending time with her husband and three daughters as well as traveling, long-distance running, and cooking.
