Dr Paul Butler is Smart, Caring, Considerate, Interesting, and Understanding. I could use many more words that make him a fine Doctor. I am very grateful to have taken him over to care for me, and to show me the way to take care of myself.

Dr Butler is not only a highly skilled physician, he is also caring and compassionate. He is a truly wonderful caregiver and I feel lucky to avail of his guidance.

Initially session got off to bad start - Dr. thought we were different people - started talking about upcoming initial Tx whereas we have already completed the initial 18 month course of infusion treatments. This was disconcerting, but once we got squared away, meeting went better. Dr. B spent plenty of time with us; did not feel rushed even though he was running late (our appt. started 30-40 minutes after scheduled start time). Dr. explained some complicated issues in a way that we could mostly understand. At end asked if he had covered everything we had in mind, everything on my list (I had as list of questions in my notebook). Two opportunities for improvement that I would suggest. (1) Figure out some mechanism for including the Alz patient in discussion - perhaps ask him/her a question first, and then ask caregiver/companion if he/she sees it the same way. After the appt. my wife said she felt as if we were talking past her, as if she was not there. This is understandable because I ended up talking the most with Dr. B. because I could remember things that my wife (the patient) could not. Dr. B did ask her some questions, but as appointment went on the conversation drifted more toward just me and him, leaving my wife out. A difficult thing, but again maybe asking us both about the same thing would help. (2) Inevitably I will have follow-up questions that I don't think of in real time during the meeting. It is VERY important for providers to respond to their portal e-mail messages to cover such follow-ups. In this instance Dr. B gets lots of credit for calling me on phone in evening a couple days after I posted some follow-up questions to discuss those issues. In the past, however, questions posed in portal have gone unanswered. BTW, obviously I (husband) am answering this survey sent to my wife - she has Alz and barely remembers the visit in question.
