MaleAbout Patawut Bovonratwet
Dr. Patawut "Pat" Bovonratwet, or Dr. B as he is known by many of his patients, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon, specializing in minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Danvers and Waltham.
Dr. B's approach to patient care is straightforward: he treats every patient as if they were a member of his own family. He prioritizes shared decision-making, believing that open communication and patient education are critical for long-term success. Although many spinal conditions can be managed without surgery, when an operation is indicated, he utilizes the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques that aim to provide a durable long-term outcome while minimizing postoperative pain and optimizing recovery time.
Dr. B received his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering and Applied Mathematics & Statistics at The Johns Hopkins University, where he graduated with the highest honors. He attended Yale University School of Medicine and earned his MD with multiple awards. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, the world’s largest academic medical center dedicated to Orthopaedics, and served as chief resident in his final year. He then completed specialized fellowship training at the Harvard Orthopaedic Spine Surgery Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital & Brigham and Women’s Hospital. In addition to his training in the United States, he completed The International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine clinical traveling fellowship and gained further advanced training in spinal endoscopy from leading experts at Wooridul Spine Hospital in Seoul, South Korea, considered one of the leading institutions in the world for endoscopic spine surgery.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. B is involved in educating future surgeons and is an active member of the academic spine community. His research interests are focused on outcomes related to minimally invasive spine surgery, value of spine surgical treatments, and comparative effectiveness of various treatments of spinal disease. To date, Dr. B has authored over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and presented his research worldwide. He has received numerous academic awards, including: The Resident & Fellow Research Award and Outstanding Paper Award from the North American Spine Society. In his free time, Dr. B enjoys cooking, traveling and spending time with his wife and daughter.
