Mia S DeSimone, MD, MPH

Mia S. DeSimone, MD, MPH is a board-certified dermatopathologist specializing in the diagnosis of skin diseases and skin cancers. She works closely with dermatologists, surgeons, oncologists, and other specialists to provide accurate diagnoses that guide treatment decisions and support the delivery of personalized patient care.

Dr. DeSimone earned her medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine and a Master of Public Health from the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health. She completed her pathology residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where she served as Chief Resident, followed by fellowship training in dermatopathology through the Harvard-Mass General Brigham Dermatopathology Fellowship Program. She is board certified in Dermatopathology, Anatomic Pathology, and Clinical Pathology.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. DeSimone is currently an Assistant Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School and serves as Vice Chair of Quality and Assistant Chief Medical Officer for Mass General Brigham Pathology. She is recognized for her leadership in patient safety, laboratory quality, and diagnostic excellence, and has led numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing pathology services and improving patient care across the health system.

Dr. DeSimone’s academic interests include melanoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, rare cutaneous tumors, and pathology quality and safety. She is actively involved in research that seeks to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes. She is also passionate about medical education, mentoring the next generation of physicians and pathologists, and advancing access to expert pathology diagnostics through global telepathology collaborations with Partners in Health.
