I am a board-certified general surgeon, critical care physician, and palliative care physician at Massachusetts General Hospital and Salem Hospital. I grew up in the Boston area and feel fortunate to be able to service this community—my home community—as part of an incredible, multi-disciplinary team. Thank you for your interest in me and my team.
My patient care philosophy is simple: I treat my patients and their families as I do my own family and I am eager to advocate for them to find the right solution to improve their health. As a surgeon and critical care provider, this means opening discussing surgical and non-surgical options and helping to decide on the right path. As a palliative care physician, this means maintaining a focus on quality of life, symptom mitigation, and clarity of what is most important.
My personal interests include finding ways to make my children laugh and learn (sometimes at the same time), exploring local bakeries with my wife and friends, road cycling, skiing, and the outdoors.

Dr Bartek is new to my care team. I have only met him in person once I have talked to him over the phone and communicated via email a few times. He is a great communicator, and easily can breakdown things in layman's terms. He has a great bedside manner as well. He made sure to ask if I understood his explanations or if I had any more questions for each topic we discussed.
