Maria A Pabon Porras, MD

Maria Pabon, originally from Cucuta, Colombia, is a cardiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. She completed her medical degree at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and subsequently trained in internal medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, before coming to Brigham and Women’s Hospital for her clinical and research fellowship in cardiovascular medicine, which she completed in 2024. She is board-certified in cardiology and internal medicine.

Dr. Pabon is a general cardiologist who cares for a broad range of cardiovascular patients, with particular clinical and research expertise in cardiovascular women’s health and cardio-obstetrics. Her work aims to address critical gaps in the understanding of sex-specific differences in cardiovascular disease. Her research spans basic, translational, and clinical investigation, with a focus on uncovering sex-specific mechanisms of disease, defining the relationship between adverse reproductive outcomes and future cardiovascular risk, particularly heart failure, and translating these insights into clinical trials that improve prevention and treatment strategies for women. She also serves as Associate Director of the Cardiovascular Imaging Core Laboratory at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
