MaleAbout Hyon-Kyoo Choi
Dr. Hyon Choi received his rheumatology fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and his master's and doctorate degrees in epidemiology from Harvard University. Dr. Choi has been a leading clinical rheumatologist and investigator with a primary focus on gout, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriatic arthritis throughout his academic career, as reflected by his funding (National Institutes of Health [NIH] and industry), publications (over 200, including >60 gout-related peer-reviewed papers including those published in NEJM, JAMA, Lancet, Nat Genet, Ann Int Med, BMJ, Arch Int Med, Am J Med, Ann Rheum Dis, A&R), and reviewer activities for top journals and the NIH. The significance of Dr. Choi’s contributions has been widely accepted by the field, and his findings have been referenced by many articles as well as by the recent guidelines from the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) and the American College of Rheumatology (ACR, 2012). His clinical and epidemiologic research has provided state-of-the-art evidence to inform the gout field, which is needed to move its guidelines from expert-consensus to an evidence-based approach.

I wanted to know if there was any connection with a blood abnormality and rheumatoid arthritis or lupus. I got the answer I wanted from Dr. Choi with great relief. I am most pleased he re-did a blood test to verify my concern and a hip x-ray to make certain that both hip joints are without compromise. [redacted]

Excellent care

I've seen Dr. Choi for quite a long time. I saw other providers for a few years when he was out on the West Coast in Canada, actually. Dr. Choi is an excellent physician, superb physician. And I've had an excellent rapport with him from when I was diagnosed in 2000 until now. So 25 years, he's been my doctor except for a period when he was in Canada. Anyway, I wouldn't have it any other way. That's it.

Dr. Choi carefully reviewed the current status of my left foot pain, apparently caused by chronic gout and/or osteoarthritis. He ordered a serum urate level blood test and followed up within hours of receiving the test results by recommending an increase in my allopurinol dose and ordering a repeat serum urate blood test in two weeks. I very much appreciate Dr. Choi's knowledge, caring and determination to resolve my foot problem.
