About Eliot M Gelwan

Eliot M. Gelwan, MD, came to McLean in 2020 after broad-ranging, public- and private-sector roles in inpatient psychiatry, systems administration, and community care throughout eastern Massachusetts. He prefers to utilize psychodynamic, cognitive, and medication-based treatment approaches in combination, and this is embodied in his approach to supervision and teaching.

Dr. Gelwan’s clinical interests include neuropsychiatry, social and cross-cultural issues, the experience of the self, emergency psychiatry and crisis stabilization, risk assessment, dual diagnosis, the treatment of violence, and diagnostic challenges. He also pursues public education and advocacy for psychiatric services delivery and against stigmatization of mental illness.
