MaleAbout Bayan A Alzumaili
Dr. Alzumaili is an anatomic pathologist with subspecialty expertise in Head & Neck/Endocrine and Breast Pathology. He joined the Department of Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in 2023, following a fellowship training at MGH in both Head & Neck/Endocrine Pathology and Breast Pathology.
Dr. Alzumaili completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Mount Sinai West/Morningside Hospital in Manhattan, New York. During his training, he developed a strong interest in endocrine pathology, particularly thyroid pathology, through collaborative work with faculty at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
At MGH, Dr. Alzumaili has developed interinstitutional collaborations focused on understanding thyroid tumorigenesis. His research integrates molecular and genetic insights into thyroid neoplasia to better characterize the biological behaviors of thyroid tumors, particularly those with uncertain malignant potential.
In addition to his clinical work and research, Dr. Alzumaili plays a prominent role in education. He actively teaches Pathology residents and fellows at MGH as well as clinical staff and trainees at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Hospital, MGH Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and MGH Endocrinology and Endocrine Surgery. He is also a regular contributor to Harvard Medical School Continuing Medical Education (CME) courses, and lectures on topics, both locally and internationally on topics related to his clinical research expertise.
