I absolutely love Dr. Smith and so appreciate her caring and patient way. She is an excellent surgeon and I felt so well cared for and lucky to be seen by her. I feel like I have her to thank for my recovery from cancer so I am forever grateful. I am a bit upset, however, that she told me I was all clear after my year-post surgery follow-up mammogram, only to hear from the radiologist that they saw some asymmetry that requires follow-up imaging. She never mentioned that this would be possible and then didn't call back when I called about it. I'm left a bit confused and I wish this possibility had been communicated to me.

Dr. Smith took a lot of time describing the various research she's done to support the safety of the procedure that she'll do for me and also the feedback that she's, the research she's done with patients who've had the procedure to understand their attitudes post-surgery, which was very helpful in understanding why I might be more certain about the surgery or less certain about it. And so that was very helpful. And she had specific numbers on success rates and recurrence rates for the cancer and all of that was extremely helpful. She was also extremely personable, respectful, and took an abundance of time with me to answer my questions, multiple times asked if I had questions, and made sure that I understood the procedure and had my questions answered before signing informed consent.

This was my first meeting with Dr. Barbara Smith. I have recently been diagnosed with BRCA2, which gives me a higher risk for Breast Cancer. I am going to have a preventative bi-lateral mastectomy with implants.
