About Arvind G von Keudell

Arvind von Keudell, MD, PhD, MPH is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic trauma and hip surgeon. He currently serves as the Director of Orthopedic Trauma Innovation at Mass General Brigham, and he is an Associate Professor (Part-Time) at Harvard Medical School. He divides his surgical practice between Boston and Copenhagen.

Dr. von Keudell earned his medical degree from the Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg, Austria. He completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in the Orthopedic Sports Medicine Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital before entering the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program. He subsequently completed fellowship training in the Harvard Orthopaedic Trauma Service at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital. During this time, he also earned a Master of Public Health in Clinical Effectiveness and Healthcare Management from the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health.

He received his PhD from the University of Copenhagen, focusing on complex tibial plateau fractures and biomechanical simulation of construct stability, advancing understanding of fracture morphology, fixation principles, and surgical strategy.

Dr. von Keudell was awarded the prestigious Jack McDaniel AO Travelling Fellowship, completing additional subspecialty surgical training in hip and acetabular reconstruction in Bern, Switzerland.

He has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed publications and serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for leading journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, and the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. His research interests include complex periarticular fractures, geriatric trauma, biomechanical modeling, and acute compartment syndrome—including a landmark publication in The Lancet in 2015.

He is also co-editor of the textbook Orthopaedic Operative Techniques in Orthopedic Trauma: A Practical Guide to Fracture Care, published by Springer in 2025.

Clinically, Dr. von Keudell specializes in the treatment of all fractures—including pelvic, acetabular, periarticular, and periprosthetic fractures—as well as the management of post-traumatic osteoarthritis and osteonecrosis of the hip.

He also treats arthritis of the hip, knee, and shoulder, performing anterior and posterior total hip arthroplasty and complex revision hip replacement.
