About Aliyah R Sohani

Dr. Sohani received her MD from Harvard Medical School and completed her residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (2001-2005), followed by fellowships in Surgical Pathology (2005-2006) and Hematopathology (2006-2007) at Massachusetts General Hospital. She joined the MGH Department of Pathology in 2007 as an attending hematopathologist, served as Medical Director of the Hematology section of the MGH Core Laboratory (2007-2017), then as Director of Surgical Pathology (2017-2024), leading policy and operational improvements that strengthened diagnostic workflows and testing efficiency in these areas, benefiting the hospital, its patients and employees. She currently serves as Vice Chair of Pathology for Faculty Practice and Affairs at Mass General Brigham, overseeing pathology practice integration across MGB's academic medical centers and community hospitals.

Dr. Sohani's research focuses on lymphoid neoplasms, with contributions that have advanced lymphoma diagnosis, classification, and risk stratification, including characterization of diagnostically challenging entities and identification of clinically relevant prognostic biomarkers.

Dr. Sohani is active in local and international education and has received the MGH Clinical Pathology Excellence in Teaching Award from trainees three times during her career. Her work also supports pathologists in low- and middle-income countries through development of practical diagnostic guidance for hematologic malignancies in settings with limited testing resources. She has contributed to clinical guidelines published by the WHO, NIH, FDA, and NCCN, and currently serves as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Surgical Pathology.
